As part of the Governance and Legal Services Group, Strategic Communication and Engagement branch consists of strategic thinkers with expertise in all communication disciplines. The branch leads the centre-led coordination of Council’s communication and messaging, ensuring residents experience one unified voice across all touchpoints as ‘One Council’.
The Role
As the Strategic Advisor, Digital Channels and Applied AI, you will provide senior leadership and trusted strategic advice across marketing, communication and community engagement to support Council’s digital channels and applied AI agenda.
The Digital Channels and Applied AI team oversees Council’s key customer-facing platforms, including the corporate website, MyServices Brisbane, the Brisbane App, EDMs and emerging AI-enabled channels, and guides the responsible adoption of applied AI to improve customer experience, service efficiency and demand reduction. This role supports coordinated strategic oversight, workforce planning, governance and investment decision-making as digital and AI capabilities become core to Council service delivery.
You will work closely with the Strategic Communication and Engagement Branch Management Team and key stakeholders to provide strategic leadership across digital channels and applied AI initiatives, including digital and EDM performance, AI channel governance and adoption readiness, workforce and operating model impacts, investment prioritisation, and risk, ethics and accountability.
You will deliver senior strategic advice and governance leadership to ensure communication and engagement activities align with Council’s objectives and support sustainable, ethical and well-governed digital transformation.
To be successful you will bring:
- demonstrated senior leadership experience operating at a strategic level within a large, complex organisation
- strong experience providing trusted strategic advice across marketing, communication, engagement or related disciplines
- proven ability to advise on complex, sensitive or high profile issues with organisational, reputational or workforce impacts
- sound understanding of digital transformation and applied AI from a strategy, governance and people impact perspective
- experience advising on workforce readiness, capability development, role design and change impacts associated with digital platforms or AI enabled ways of working
- experience contributing to or advising on budget management, prioritisation and investment decisions for major programs or portfolios
- demonstrated ability to work effectively with HR, finance, legal, technology and governance stakeholders to manage risk and enable sustainable change
- excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and engage diverse internal and external stakeholders
- strong relationship management skills and the ability to work across organisational boundaries to achieve agreed strategic outcomes
