Our Business:
Infrastructure Services (ISG) brings together Council's asset management, infrastructure planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance and transport operations activities.
Our Branch:
Asphalt and Aggregates oversees the management of Council's quarries and road surfacing operations, including the laying and repair of asphalt pavements, minor pothole repairs and road line marking. The branch consists of three core business units: Road Resurfacing, Asphalt Production and Quarries.
The role:
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Tradesperson – Asphalt to help maintain Council’s asphalt production plants and supporting structures. Based at either our Eagle Farm or Riverview sites, you’ll carry out safe, reliable, and cost‑effective maintenance that ensures our plants continue to meet customer needs. The role includes reading technical drawings, working with draftspersons and engineers, and performing tasks that may involve working at heights and in confined spaces.
In this role, you’ll complete repairs, keep work areas clean and efficient, follow all safety procedures, and meet agreed time and cost expectations. You’ll also support apprentices by sharing technical knowledge, handle administrative tasks such as requisitions, and communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, contractors, and suppliers to keep work running smoothly.
We’re seeking someone with a trade qualification, strong problem‑solving skills, a customer‑focused mindset, and a commitment to safe, high‑quality work. To be successful you will need:
- ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback, and meet agreed performance standards to support a culture of performance excellence.
- experience across a wide range of welding and fabrication tasks, including repair and modification of plant, equipment, and structures.
- ability to work both independently and as part of a team, including experience guiding and supporting apprentices.
- knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety and environmental requirements in a workshop setting.
- strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver good customer service and complete job‑related administrative tasks.
- ability to produce clear sketches and work from workshop and engineering drawings, as well as design and fabricate jigging for component manufacture
- Certificate III-Engineering -Fabrication Trade or Equivalent
- White Card
- possession of an Elevated Work Platform (EWP) ticket for 11 metres or above, with working‑at‑heights accreditation is not essential but highly regarded
