Are you positioned to provide the very best horticultural curation for our city’s Botanic Gardens and High-Profile Parks for residents and visitors?

Brisbane City Council is currently recruiting for the unique and highly respected Curator position. As the Curator you will be responsible for ensuring these iconic gardens meet international standards of horticultural excellence.

Public Space Operations is a service delivery, customer focused and commercially driven business that prides itself on keeping Brisbane’s streets and public spaces clean, green and safe for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.​​​​​​​

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Gardens are valued educational, leisure, tourism, and events destinations for the people of Brisbane and visitors to South-East Queensland.

As the Curator you will work with stakeholders to promote these Gardens throughout the state, and on a national and international level.

Your key accountabilities will be to:

  • Oversee the development and management of the living collections of Brisbane three botanic gardens
  • promote a professional image of the Gardens and implement appropriate publicity, public relations, and business development strategies
  • provide leadership to a dedicated team
  • provide horticultural advice and services to the public, staff, Councillors, volunteers, special event organisers and other organisations to educate the community about Council goals for the gardens.

To be successful in this position you will need to possess:

  • Experience in the management, development, and maintenance of public parks or botanical gardens
  • ability to apply business acumen to identify and develop the botanic gardens as significant tourism and leisure destinations for Brisbane
  • demonstrated ability to lead, manage and develop individual staff and multidisciplinary teams
  • exceptional consultation, negotiation, and communications skills with a focus on influencing stakeholders and delivering excellent customer service
  • proven ability in formulating strategic budget and project submissions and monitoring successful outcomes.
