Salary Range: Band 7 $132,572 - $144,942 + Superannuation

The Role

The Principal Data Analyst supports strategic and operational decision-making across Council by delivering high-quality data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence. The role will work to enhance financial and operational outcomes through advanced data modelling, decision support, and performance tracking. It enables evidence-based prioritisation and continuous improvement by providing timely, accurate insights that support integrated, sustainable, and economically responsible service delivery and outcomes for Council.

To be successful you will have:

  • Ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback and achieve agreed performance standards in order to contribute to a culture of performance excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysing complex datasets, producing insights, and reporting in a financial or public sector environment.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Substantial experience in evaluating proposals using advanced financial analysis techniques and business models, incorporating advanced use of business software, Microsoft Excel and corporate accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking research, financial analysis and complex modelling to provide recommendations or solutions to current or emerging issues.
  • Substantial experience in providing a financial and business advisory service to senior managers and other customers including financial analysis, planning and management reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in reporting and analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
