The Role
As a Senior Technical Consultant - Secured Networks, you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding and evolving the digital backbone of Brisbane City Council. This is a hands‑on senior technical role where your deep expertise in network and security technologies directly supports the services relied on by people who live, work, study and visit Brisbane. You’ll lead the development, operation and continuous improvement of secure ICT solutions, working across a complex, enterprise‑scale environment to ensure systems are resilient, high‑performing and fit for the future. From resolving high‑impact incidents to shaping standards and introducing new technologies, your work will have real, city‑wide impact.
You’ll also be a trusted technical advisor and collaborator, partnering with project teams, architects, service leaders and vendors to deliver secure, reliable outcomes for the business. This role offers variety and influence - balancing strategic thinking with practical problem‑solving, mentoring peers, and contributing to service planning, financial management and capability uplift across the team. If you thrive in environments where your technical judgement matters, enjoy leading through expertise rather than hierarchy, and want to apply your skills to work that genuinely benefits the community, this is an opportunity to make your mark.
To be successful you will have:
- extensive hands-on experience in a Network Security Operations or Network Security Engineering role within large, complex enterprise environments
- strong technical expertise across network and security platforms, including firewalls, PKI, VPNs, WAFs, proxy services, DNS, and cloud security services across Azure and AWS
- hands-on experience with enterprise security tooling, such as Infoblox, Zscaler, Cisco FirePower, and Palo Alto, including operational support and implementation
- proven ability to analyse complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, assess risk, and design practical, secure, and scalable solutions
- experience supporting and implementing cloud environments, with a strong understanding of Azure security architecture and integration with on-premise and hybrid networks
- demonstrated capability to manage security risks and issues across operational, project, and strategic contexts, ensuring alignment with organisational risk tolerance and security objectives
- strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence outcomes through clear, trusted technical advice when working with stakeholders such as project teams, service leaders, and external vendors
- in-depth knowledge of security industry best practices, emerging threats, trends, and innovations, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
- proven teamwork and stakeholder engagement skills, enabling effective delivery of security outcomes in fast-paced, operationally critical environments.
