The Role

 We are seeking an experienced and motivated Arboriculture Pruning Team Leader to join our Public Space Operations team. This operational role sits within the Arboricultural section and plays a key part in delivering high‑quality maintenance and management of Council’s tree assets.

Working in a collaborative team environment, the Team Leader provides guidance, coordination and support to field staff while liaising with supervisors, contractors, customers and other Council stakeholders.

In this role, you will lead a team to deliver arboricultural services that meet community needs and align with industry best practice. You will set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and assist staff in achieving high performance standards. With strong customer focus, you will identify service requirements, offer practical arboricultural advice, and ensure all work is completed safely, professionally and in accordance with relevant legislation, Council policies and Australian Standards.

You will oversee daily operations, conduct inspections, monitor work quality and maintain accurate records to support effective service delivery.

Your responsibilities will include coordinating internal teams and external suppliers, supporting investigations into safety or customer incidents, contributing to staff development and ensuring all field activities are undertaken safely and efficiently.

To be successful you will have:

  • demonstrated experience in arboricultural practices, including the safe and effective use of a wide range of industry machinery and tools
  • proven ability to lead team performance by setting clear direction, establishing expectations, providing support and feedback, and monitoring individual and team outcomes
  • strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to complete paperwork accurately and communicate with customers in a confident and professional manner
  • well‑developed organisational skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and respond to urgent customer needs in a fast‑paced environment
  • demonstrated competency in the operation of specialised equipment and techniques related to tree felling
  • understanding of Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and its application in operational environments.
  • possession of a Trade Certificate Level III in Arboriculture
  • possession of a current MR Licence
  • certification, licences or experience in operating an Elevated Work Platform (EWP) and holding a Doggers Certificate, or a commitment to obtaining these promptly will be highly regarded.
  • possession of a White Card
