Personnel Area: City Planning and Economic Development Services

Branch: 2032 Host City, Global Relations and Economic Partnerships

Duration: Contract – 4 years

A strategic leader with a strong sales instinct and a proven track record of closing complex, high-value deals. You are creative, commercially savvy, politically astute and thrive in environments where no two days, or deals, are the same.

Step into a career defining role with Brisbane City Council’s newly formed 2032 Host City, Global Relations and Economic Partnerships (2032 HCGREP) Branch-part of the largest local government in Australia.

In preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games (the Games), the scale and complexity of strategic economic partnerships, sponsorship opportunities, and global engagement initiatives have significantly increased. As Brisbane evolves into a globally recognised city, there is a growing need to drive collaboration between public and private sectors, attract investment, and ensure long-term economic growth.

We are looking for a dynamic Chief Strategic Partnerships Manager to lead the charge in attracting global investment, forging strategic alliances and unlocking new revenue streams. This role is perfect for a high-level strategic business developer, who is opportunistic and thinks laterally. You will work across Council to map out assets or potential assets that need investment or sponsorship and using your high-level connections you will collaborate with all levels of government, industry, and the private sector to source bold solutions for the city.

Our Host City & Strategic Partnerships, Economic Development, and International Relations & Multicultural Affairs teams are working together to strengthen global connections and foster innovation. With a strong foundation of domestic and international relationships, Brisbane is emerging as a leading international city, ready to seize new opportunities and shape a legacy that extends well beyond the 2032 Games.

As the Chief Strategic Partnerships Manager, you will lead an engagement strategy aligned with Council’s vision, building on strategic partnerships to unlock new revenue streams, support major infrastructure projects, and enhance Brisbane’s global reputation. Through transformative collaborations, you will strengthen Council’s sponsorship base and position the city for sustained economic and reputational success as Host City and beyond.

  • Executive Leadership: Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives that attract transformative value to Brisbane
  • Strategic Partnerships: Secure and grow high-value partnerships with local and international investors aligned with strategic goals.
  • Commercial Acumen: Drive commercial strategy with an entrepreneurial approach to revenue generation through strong commercial and financial insight.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build trusted relationships at the highest levels across government, industry and community sectors.
  • Global Positioning: Leverage major events to enhance global reputation and attract investment.
  • Innovation Mindset: Foster innovation and apply entrepreneurial thinking to create value in public sector environments.
  • Governance and Performance: Manage governance, risk and compliance while driving performance through measurable outcomes.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a newly created role that will drive Brisbane’s long-term economic growth and global reputation. If you are a visionary leader with a proven track record as a strategic deal maker and thrive in dynamic, high-impact environments, we invite you to apply and help position Brisbane as a globally recognised city of the future.
