Ward Officer
A unique opportunity exists for a highly motivated, customer focused person to join the Morningside Ward Office as a Ward Officer. As part of a small team, your role will be to ensure the effective administrative operation of the Councillor's Ward Office as well as liaising effectively with the community, residents and other stakeholders in their interactions with Brisbane City Council. Knowledge (or the ability to obtain) of, or an existing connection to the local community is desirable but not mandatory. Your excellent customer service and caring nature will be on display everyday to every resident who calls, emails or walks through the door that wants to connect with our fantastic office.
About Morningside Ward:
Morningside Ward compromises the suburbs of Morningside, Balmoral, Bulimba, Hawthorne, Norman Park, Seven Hills, and parts of Camp Hill. Some of our greatest community treasures include Brisbane’s renowned Oxford St retail and dining precinct, our many parks and playgrounds, beautiful riverfront walks and our famous local businesses that create a wonderful experience for residents and visitors alike. We are home to over 100 sporting clubs, schools and other community groups that are proud to call Morningside Ward home.
Key responsibilities:
- providing high level administrative support including a high standard of customer service in all interactions
- managing a high-volume shared email inbox and greeting residents as they enter the office
- resolving a variety of complex customer requests and enquiries, with the ability to take detailed information, submit requests and communicate updates and outcome with residents and the Councillor
- collaborating with the team to coordinate local community events (as directed by the Councillor), including booking venues and suppliers, coordinating logistics, and executing advertising and promotional activities. Examples include mobile offices, Movies in the Park, new playground celebrations.
- utilising strong problem solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess and escalate key information where required
- collaborating with the team to assist with marketing communications, including newsletters (both paper and electronic) and social media content research.
Key Attributes:
- proficient in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software where required
- well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a small team
- highly developed time management and prioritisation skills
- experience dealing with sensitive information in a confidential and appropriate manner
- a caring and empathetic nature to those in need of our support, especially the more vulnerable members of our community
- strong attention to detail and desirable previous experience in database usage
- willingness to positively contribute to team direction
- the ability to compile and create business reports, information sheets, presentations and correspondence (emails and letters including unaddressed and direct mail)
Your willingness and enthusiasm to get the job done, will contribute to the overall effective operation of the Morningside Ward Office. The ideal candidate will show resilience, empathy and work well within a small team.
This role will include some after hours or weekend work by agreement.
