Information Services supports and enables Council's day-to-day activities and services through efficient, flexible, and innovative ICT solutions and digital capabilities. By upgrading business efficiency and using digital capabilities, this branch helps Council deliver optimal outcomes that enhance service delivery and meet the evolving needs of the community in an increasingly digital landscape.
The Role
Technical Specialist Innovation is expected to deliver outcomes that meet the goals and needs of Brisbane City Council’s customers and ratepayers through the intimate knowledge of the business, technical requirements, emerging technologies and the underlying Infrastructure technologies required to provide the expected services.
The primary purpose of this role is to create innovative services that utilise Enterprise Applications and introduce technologies to resolve Council business problems. Ensuring the created services comply with the agreed standards as defined by Council’s ICT business objectives and strategic direction and deliver the desired business outcomes for the customer. The role will lead the creation of these services using Cloud solutions, On Premise solutions or hybrid solutions.
To be successful you will:
- lead the development and research of Extended Reality (XR) technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)
- explore, prototype, and implement innovative 3D technologies, such as Gaussian Splatting and other advanced techniques with 3D geospatial capabilities
- evaluate emerging XR trends and translate them into practical, high‑value solutions for the organisation
- actively shape team direction by contributing ideas, sharing constructive feedback, and consistently meeting agreed performance standards
- design and deliver innovative solutions by applying deep technical expertise and leveraging both existing and emerging technologies to solve complex business challenges
- build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and external service providers
- communicate confidently and clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences
- plan and manage proofs of concept from end to end, applying strong organisational skills to deliver small, short‑term initiatives
- develop, document, and maintain standards, guidelines, and procedures that support the trial, evaluation, and adoption of innovative solutions.
Highly regarded for success in the role:
- relevant tertiary qualifications in IT, business, engineering, or a related discipline, supported by recognised industry certifications such as ITIL v3.
