The Strategic Procurement branch within the Corporate Services group operates via a centre-led model of procurement, which focuses on efficient planning, sourcing, contract management and supply chain strategies. The Commodities and Services team covers a broad range of categories from waste collection and disposal, transport equipment, utility products, through to goods and services that enable Council to run day to day business effectively.

As Category Officer, you will provide essential administrative and analytical support within the category management function. You will assist in managing a range of contracts and suppliers, perform data analysis to support procurement strategies, and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of procurement data. You will support Category Specialists in compiling contract documentation, monitor end-user spend compliance, and contribute to managing supply risk and supplier performance through KPI tracking within the supplier relationship framework. Additionally, you will maintain up-to-date contract registers, track key dates, and ensure renewals are captured in the annual sourcing plan, all while upholding the highest standards of procurement ethics.

To be considered, you will have:

  • knowledge of the end-to-end procurement cycle
  • strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • awareness of local industry trends and best-practice procurement
  • experience with SAP Ariba and supporting end-user teams, and
  • ability to contribute to business process and system improvements.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or equivalent procurement experience (including sourcing and contract management of low-value/low-risk contracts), and demonstrated high-level proficiency in systems such as SAP Ariba, Records Manager, Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, OneNote, Outlook), and AI tools, are highly desirable.
