Location: Brisbane. The team is based centrally; however the work is predominately field based servicing the whole of Brisbane Local Government Area

​​​​​​​Compliance and Regulatory Services (CARS) supplies services which help make Brisbane a fairer and safer place 24/7. CARS is divided into four dynamic work areas, all working together to deliver compliance and provide the highest level of community value to Brisbane residents.

The Role

Is serving the people of Brisbane as a front-line, customer focused, field-based Compliance Officer your dream career? Is your perfect day managing the unpredictable?

Rapid Response Group (RRG) is Council’s 24/7 frontline compliance response team. We provide a first response for time critical public safety issues such as dog attacks, footway hazards and obstructions, parking complaints, interference with protected vegetation and pollution incidents. In addition to this, we also provide after-hours assistance to other CARS units gathering evidence to progress current investigations. During a disaster or severe weather event, you will become the rapid assessment team carrying out damage assessment and hazard identification for the Local Disaster Co-ordination Centre.

This position requires an individual who is proactive, resourceful, and committed to maintaining safety and compliance across Brisbane’s Local Government Area.

This role requires participation in a rotational roster, reasonable after-hours activities and overtime when required by business needs and/or disaster events. The role involves field work and has an 8 days on/ 6 days off roster, consisting of 9.5 hour shifts including weekends and public holidays.

To be successful you will have operational understanding and practical experience in the application of Brisbane City Council’s regulatory framework - in particular, legislation, local laws, regulations, policies and procedures, and guidelines relating to local government licensing and regulatory compliance in Queensland.

• work autonomously, flexibly and responsively
• handle challenging situations and highly emotional people
• utilise empathetic and non-escalating inter-personal communication skills
• undertake investigation of legislative breaches, gather evidence, conduct interviews and statements in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
• present evidence in Court.
