Location: Boondall Wetlands, Karawatha Forest and Downfall Creek (travel between all 3 expected)

The Role

The Environment Centres Community Engagement Officer is primarily responsible for the development and delivery of environment centre community engagement programs that build connection to the environment and drives behaviour change. Your role will include monitoring key aspects of the day-to-day operations of our environment centres. You will be accountable for three centres, located in Boondall Wetlands, Karawatha Forest and Downfall Creek. Travel between the centres is a requirement of this role.

You will research, develop, and deliver community engagement activities, displays and materials, and develop and maintain key stakeholder and contractor relationships to support the delivery of these programs. Through your exceptional communication skills, you will showcase important behaviour change messages through provision of high-level environmental advice and information to the wider community.

With an authentic interest in the local environment, you will have an eagerness to obtain a high level of scientific knowledge of local flora, fauna, ecology, and culture as well as relevant environmental issues, and use this knowledge to best educate customers whilst also creating and delivering contemporary learning solutions for Council.

To be successful you will have:

  • Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating environmental based community engagement programs and projects, with a focus on behaviour change outcomes
  • experience in operational management of a visitor/environment centre or similar
  • confidence in presenting interactive workshops to large audiences
  • well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate in support of program outcomes
  • demonstrated experience in the provision of excellent customer service at a community level
  • the ability to make a positive contribution in a team environment
  • a valid working with children check, or eligibility to apply
  • a current C or CA class driver’s licence.
