Our Business 

Brisbane City Council’s Corporate Services Group provides the essential support functions that enable Council to run smoothly and efficiently. The group is responsible for ensuring Council has the necessary people, technology and services to support its core operations and strategic objectives. It provides services across a range of functions, including people, finance, digital, procurement, rates, debt management, property management, process and service excellence, project portfolio governance, and project management frameworks and standards. 

Our Branch 

Council is implementing a new operating model for its safety function, including establishing a dedicated Safety Branch. This branch will be Council’s central ‘hub’ of the model, responsible for strengthening governance and collaborating with embedded operational safety teams to ensure coordinated outcomes across the organisation. 

The Role 

The Human Factors Advisor will provide expertise and leadership in human factors to embed human-centred and system-based thinking into the design of work. The role analyses and interprets human factors performance data to identify contributors to risk, provides recommendations to enhance safety performance and coaches leaders to build human factors capability across Council. 

To be successful you will have: 

  • ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback and achieve agreed performance standards in order to contribute to a culture of performance excellence 
  • strong knowledge and demonstrated expertise in applying and embedding human factors principles and undertaking evaluation activities in complex operational environments 
  • demonstrated in-depth understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS) legislation, WHS strategy and critical risk frameworks, with the ability to apply within a diverse organisation 
  • extensive experience in building relationships, coaching and facilitating constructive conversations about applying human factors principles to optimise organisational performance 
  • excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to think conceptually and drive practical solutions 
  • outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to confidently provide relevant and practical support and advice to leaders and safety professionals 
  • demonstrated experience in collaborating with stakeholders to undertake strategic planning and help shape strategic vision and direction, with a focus on effective engagement and communication. 

Essential: 

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in human factors, workplace health and safety, ergonomics, psychology, cognitive science or related discipline. 

Desirable: 

Ideally, the preferred candidate will have postgraduate qualifications in workplace health and safety and/or professional certification, and experience supporting organisational development or change functions.
