Our Business:

Transport Planning and Operations (TPO) have a key role to play in planning and maintaining Council's transport network and in implementing the Transport Plan for Brisbane to enable the efficient and sustainable movement of people and freight. We are all about keeping Brisbane moving, whether that's by using our road network or riding, walking or scooting along one of our many bikeways and shared paths.

The Role:

Brisbane Metropolitan Transport Management Centre (BMTMC) is a joint Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council alliance, whose purpose is to deliver best-practice transport management services to give commuters using the greater Brisbane metropolitan road network safe, reliable commuting with minimal delays.

From our “state of the art” 24/7 Operations Room, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR), Brisbane City Council, Translink and Transport for Brisbane work together to manage traffic and public transport for almost half the state’s population. This critical business unit manages all traffic and road movements with the primary focus on maintaining the smooth flow of traffic.

Working in a room full of screens, monitors and super high-tech equipment, you and your team can view literally thousands of kilometres of road network at a glance. Use state of the art, multi-dimensional, systems and mapping to respond to real time traffic events, incidents, weather situations and anything else affecting the road and traffic network to provide timely solutions. You will work extensively with the community, police, state government and private organisations to coordinate solutions to road network incidents as they arise. Frequently, you will take calls from people in stressful situations, so your ability to capture the right information under pressure is critical and so your communication skills will need to be exceptional.

As Brisbane is a busy, modern city, requiring around the clock service, you will commit a minimum of 20 hour week on a rotating 24 hour roster.

To be successful you will have:

  • experience in responding to real-time, complex situations and delivering quality responses and solutions
  • ability to monitor multiple systems using dedicated monitoring systems and dispersed surveillance and data capturing networks
  • highly developed written and verbal communication skills including experience in capturing and recording relevant information concisely
  • stellar time management skills and experience in delivering under pressure
  • demonstrated delivery of high levels of customer service in a high-volume customer service environment
  • competent computer and keyboard typing skills.
