Our Branch 

The Sport and Recreation branch within Community and the Arts Services supports an active, healthy and connected Brisbane by enabling community participation in sport and active lifestyles. The branch delivers inclusive sport and recreation programs, manages and supports access to sporting and recreation spaces, and works closely with clubs, organisations and partners through funding, advocacy and strategic support. Its focus is on providing safe, accessible and community‑responsive opportunities that promote wellbeing, social connection and long‑term sustainability across Brisbane’s diverse neighbourhoods. 

About the Role 

We are seeking a highly capable Branch Operations Manager to provide specialist leadership and business management support to the General Manager, Sport and Recreation, and the Branch Leadership Team. 

In this pivotal role, you will lead the management and continuous improvement of business operations, performance frameworks, governance processes, financial management, risk and audit activities, and executive support functions. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring effective business management and service delivery 
  • lead a high-performing, customer-focused culture through strong people leadership, workforce planning, performance management and capability development 
  • oversee branch financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, project bids and resource planning 
  • drive governance, risk management, audit, business continuity and continuous improvement initiatives to support organisational objectives 
  • build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships while providing strategic advice, representing the General Manager and influencing decision-making across the organisation. 

You will bring: 

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in building high-performing, values-driven teams and fostering a culture of excellence 
  • strong expertise in financial management, budgeting, business operations and corporate governance 
  • highly developed analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to manage complex and sensitive issues 
  • proven experience in risk management, audit, business planning and organisational performance improvement 
  • exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, supported by strong knowledge of local government governance, legislation and policy frameworks.
