Transport Planning and Operations (TPO) have a key role to play in planning and maintaining Council's transport network and in implementing the Transport Plan for Brisbane to enable the efficient and sustainable movement of people and freight.

The Role
The Intelligent Transport Systems Manager will oversee Brisbane City Council's Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) network, including budget and asset management, as well as Information and Communication Technology (ICT). You will lead ICT, Cyber and ITS strategies to meet the current and future needs of TPO.
In this leadership role, you’ll manage a team of technical and professional staff, delivering innovative, best-practice ICT solutions for the operational technology (OT) network—supporting ITS systems and the 24/7 operations of the Brisbane Metropolitan Transport Management Centre (BMTMC).
Key responsibilities will include:
- lead and manage a team delivering ITS and traffic signal systems and services
- develop and implement strategic ITS initiatives and a 3–5 year ITS architecture roadmap
- provide high-level advice on complex ITS and traffic signal issues
- oversee budgets, project delivery, and procurement activities
- build and maintain strong partnerships and stakeholder relationships
- ensure business continuity, disaster recovery, and service-level planning for ITS systems.
To be successful in this position you will have:
- evidence of capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint
- proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage staff in delivering operational road network and ITS services
- demonstrated experience in ITS, ICT, and cyber security environments, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues
- strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to translate technical information into business-relevant terms
- demonstrated capability in project and financial management, including budget development and strategic analysis
- ability to contribute to the development of traffic management systems, policies, and the strategic direction of ITS and supporting technologies, including AI capabilities
- evidence of aligning with Council’s Leadership Blueprint to foster a high-performance, values-based culture.
