Our Business 

Corporate Services provides the essential support functions that enable Council to run smoothly and efficiently. The group is responsible for ensuring Council has the necessary people, technology and services to support its core operations and strategic objectives. It provides services across a range of functions, including people, finance, digital, procurement, rates, debt management, property management, process and service excellence, project portfolio governance, and project management frameworks and standards. 

Our Branch 

Council is implementing a new operating model for its safety function, including establishing a dedicated Safety Branch. This branch will be Council’s central ‘hub’ of the model, responsible for strengthening governance and collaborating with embedded operational safety teams to ensure coordinated outcomes across the organisation. 

The Role 

The Business Services Manager provides high level, strategic professional and executive support and advice to the Executive Manager Safety, Branch Leadership Team, senior leaders and a range of diverse stakeholders. The role contributes to the overall management, operation and strategic direction of the Safety Branch. This role also manages the office of the Executive Manager Safety. 

To be successful you will have: 

  • demonstrated evidence of capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint to deliver performance excellence and a values-based culture 
  • demonstrated significant experience in providing high quality professional advice, interpretation and information to senior management across a range of strategy, policy, business and operational issues, while demonstrating an organisational awareness 
  • demonstrated capability in analytical research and problem-solving, including the ability to synthesise and summarise complex issues, identify contentious and emergent risks and issues, and develop practical recommendations and options to support effective decision-making 
  • demonstrated skills and experience in managing complex organisational projects, including the ability to lead and participate in multidisciplinary project teams that deliver required outcomes 
  • highly developed verbal, written and negotiation skills, with proven ability to effectively communicate and develop positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including executive and management groups 
  • exceptional interpersonal skills to influence, lead and motivate others to achieve strategic, business and branch objectives 
  • demonstrated experience in managing sensitive information in a confidential and appropriate manner, and ability to exercise discretion in dealing with sensitive, complex issues. 

Desirable:

Ideally, the preferred candidate will have tertiary qualifications in business, communication, change management, project management or a related discipline, and experience in a strategic role for a large, diverse or complex organisation.
