Cemeteries, within the Customer Services Group, manages cemetery and crematorium operations across Brisbane, delivering respectful, safe, and customer-focused services. The Role
Brisbane City Council is seeking a highly experienced Cemetery Manager to lead the delivery of daily burial and cremation at our Pinnaroo Cemetery. This pivotal leadership role oversees multiple teams responsible for operations, fleet management, project delivery and project delivery, all while managing within budget and ensuring exceptional customer service and operational excellence.
You will drive innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement while managing complex negotiations and sensitive stakeholder relationships. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on services that support Brisbane’s community during significant life events.
As Cemetery Manager, you will:
- Coordinate burial operations and facilities management across the cemetery including the maintenance of fleets, equipment and other facilities
- Lead an experience workforce while building strong, hands‑on relationships with both administrative and field teams, ensuring open communication and a deep understanding of daily operations.
- Oversee and stay actively engaged in day‑to‑day activities to support smooth workflow, timely decision‑making, and operational excellence.
- Establish a culture of customer service excellence
- Establish a strong culture of work place health and safety
- Plan, undertake and supervise cemetery land enhancements and maintenance ensuring compliance with the Environmental Protection Act
This position requires flexibility and leads a team who whose rosters span over 7-days and may be required to be available.
As the successful candidate you will have:
- Demonstrated leadership experience in day-to-day operations of a large diverse teams with a focus on field delivery and customer service
- Proven ability to deliver customer-focused services and drive cultural and operational excellence.
- Relevant experience in achieving outcomes in the management, operation and maintenance of cemeteries and crematoria or similar industry.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High-level analytical and problem-solving capability to address complex operational challenges.
- Experience in project delivery, and strategic planning.
- A current C Class driver’s licence.
Desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
