The Role

We are seeking a Building and Infrastructure Technical Officer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for: 

  • Conducting condition inspections and preparing detailed reports on findings
  • estimating repairs for minor defects across a range of assets, including Council buildings, minor civil infrastructure (e.g., small structures, drainage), and open spaces (e.g., parks)
  • working under general guidance to ensure tasks align with established standards, methodologies, and regulations
  • using RPAs (drones) at a Remote Pilot level to enhance inspection processes and contribute to efficient asset assessments

Key responsibilities include:

  •  inspecting various assets and providing technical advice to ensure effective outcomes for asset condition assessments and future work programs
  • collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the efficient and timely completion of assigned work
  • ensuring Council assets are managed in accordance with corporate and environmental policies, guidelines, standards, and applicable legislation
  • providing technical guidance and support to other staff, helping to upskill and build capabilities within the team
  • managing asset data and imagery using tools such as 360 cameras, drones, and spatial modelling software
  • maintaining quality control and standardisation in all outputs, ensuring accuracy and consistency across tasks.

This role requires participation in an on-call roster, reasonable after-hours activities and overtime when required by business needs and/or disaster events.   

To be successful you will have:

  • ability to work well with others, give and receive feedback, and meet performance goals to support a culture of excellence
  • able to work independently and with a team, prioritise tasks, and address issues on time to meet deadlines and customer needs
  • experience in managing or maintaining infrastructure or buildings, understanding construction and maintenance practices
  • ability to interpret plans and procedures for maintenance, construction, or inspection of buildings and civil assets
  • strong verbal and written communication skills, including handling conflicts, negotiations, and consultations
  • skilled in using computer and mobile-based asset management systems like SAP or ESRI for reporting and data capture
  • proficient in Microsoft Office and GIS applications (ESRI) and project planning tools like MS Project
  • experience in quality control or assurance activities to ensure standards are met in construction, maintenance, or inspections.
