The Job
Join the Illegal Dumping Team, within the Visual Amenity and Safety Team. As a city safety officer. You will be responsible for the investigation, enforcement, and prevention of illegal dumping and littering offences within the Brisbane City Council area. This role plays a critical part in protecting the environment, public health, and amenity of the city by ensuring compliance with the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 and other relevant legislation.
Your Role
You will work as part of a dedicated team, engaging with the community to promote proper waste disposal and taking appropriate action against offenders. The role requires a balance of investigative skill, legal knowledge, and strong interpersonal communication to achieve compliance outcomes.
The team uses smart technology (overt and covert surveillance systems) in the mobile enforcement space to monitor illegal dumping and littering across the city. You will be part of one of the most experienced and skilled teams of its kind in Queensland, providing training and knowledge sharing across the entire state, utilising some of the most advanced technology available to local governments.
This is an active role which includes both field and office based duties, do you want to use ladders and elevated work platforms to ascend into the trees and install covert cameras, use small power tools, drive custom built 4WDs on unsealed roads, sand islands and offroad tracks whilst towing specialised equipment, review surveillance footage and complete compliance notices, issue infringement notices and conduct interviews? Well this might be the job for you.
You will be based with your team in Fortitude Valley and will need to work on a roster which is based on an early start, early finish.
To be successful in this role you will have:
· experience in understanding and applying legislation, regulations and guidelines relating to local government and regulatory compliance in Queensland
· excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with a resilient mindset
· the ability to work effectively on your own and within a dynamic team environment with minimal supervision
· the ability to conduct investigations, collect evidence and prepare reports
· a current 'C' class driver's licence.
The following skills and capabilities, though not mandatory, will be highly regarded:
· the ability to operate remote sensing technologies and associated systems
· working at heights Certification
· with Risk Work Licence - Elevated Work Platform
· certification – Driving 4WDs on unsealed roads
· certification – Towing Vehicles
· current First Aid and CPR certificate
· certificate IV in Government Investigations
· sound knowledge of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.
