Brisbane Infrastructure (BI) brings together Council's asset management, infrastructure planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance and transport operations activities
Our Branch
Asphalt and Aggregates oversees the management of Council's quarries and road surfacing operations, including the laying and repair of asphalt pavements, minor pothole repairs and road line marking. The branch consists of three core business units: Road Resurfacing, Asphalt Production and Quarries.
The Role
This role involves operating trucks to transport asphalt safely and efficiently, while ensuring high standards of customer service, safety, and maintenance. You will work closely with your team leader to meet performance expectations, maintain truck cleanliness, and prepare vehicles for daily tasks. The role also includes performing labouring tasks, guiding trucks on construction sites, and following direction from authorised Traffic Controllers. Additionally, you will manage administrative duties such as completing timesheets and incident reports, all while ensuring quality and timeliness in your work.
Key Accountabilities:
- lead by example, treating all internal and external customers with honesty, fairness, sensitivity, and respect
- perform labouring tasks using hand tools and plant equipment (such as rollers and vibratory plate compactors) safely and in line with delivery requirements
- maintain truck cleanliness to required housekeeping standards
- prepare vehicles for daily operations, performing routine maintenance and completing a pre-start checklist to minimise delays and ensure efficiency
- safely operate, drive, reverse, and tip a heavy rigid vehicle on and off construction sites
- direct and guide trucks during movement and tipping
- perform tasks independently and under routine supervision within a team environment
- carry out tasks while maintaining quality, cost, and timeliness standards.
To be successful, you will have:
- the ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback, and achieve agreed performance standards to foster a culture of performance excellence.
- competency in completing daily tasks in accordance with Zero Harm initiatives and WHS and EPA legislative requirements, as well as documented Council policies and procedures.
- experience in performing labouring tasks, including competent use of general hand tools and plant items (e.g. rollers and vibratory plate compactors) safely and to deliver quality requirements.
- well-developed customer service skills, including the ability to successfully resolve complaints and take appropriate action to avoid recurrence of the problem.
- well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive rapport with customers from all areas.
- competency in operating and tipping a heavy rigid vehicle, both on-road and in a construction environment.
- high-level competency in operating automatic truck gearboxes and driving trucks in excess of 22.4 tonne GVM.
- possession of a current Heavy Rigid ‘HR/HC’ licence (Note: Driving history for the previous three years must be provided on application for this position).
- possession of (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement) a Work Safely in the Construction Industry card (White/Blue card).
- the ability to work on a shift-based roster.
- a sound knowledge of Brisbane’s road network would be highly regarded.
- demonstrated knowledge of TORUM legislation applicable to Heavy Vehicles would be a bonus.
