Our Business
Brisbane City Council is one of the largest local governments in Australia, dedicated to building a better Brisbane. We deliver a wide range of services and infrastructure projects that support the city’s growth, sustainability, and liveability. Our commitment to safety, collaboration, and innovation underpins everything we do.
Our Branch
Infrastructure Services is responsible for delivering major infrastructure projects and maintenance works across Brisbane. We work closely with external contractors and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Our team culture is collaborative, professional, and focused on continuous improvement and technical excellence.
The Role
We are seeking two experienced WH&S Advisors to support high-risk, operational teams delivering and maintaining construction and civil/infrastructure works, with the flexibility to support other field-based works programs as required.
You will partner closely with operational teams, engaging directly with supervisors, team members and leaders to provide practical safety advice, guidance and support. You will help ensure compliance with WH&S requirements while promoting a proactive safety culture. This role is both field-based (2–3 days per week) and office-based, working directly with the business to drive safe systems of work and improve safety maturity across the supported areas.
The role involves delivering clear and practical feedback, identifying safety issues and effectively communicating the corrective actions required to address them. You will support business areas through safety training and consultation activities, including participating in meetings and toolbox talks, while also developing and reviewing safety materials and documentation tailored to varying levels of safety maturity. In addition, you will respond to safety‑related emails and requests, ensuring consistent, informed safety advice is provided across the business.
What are we looking for?

- knowledge of WHS legislation and codes of practice, with the ability to interpret and apply them in a practical and meaningful way
- strong written and verbal communication skills to provide professional advice in high-risk work environments, including the ability to write clear, professional reports and safety documentation
- proven experience supporting incident investigations and tracking corrective actions
- proven experience partnering with site leaders to strengthen risk management practices
- a practical, solutions-focused approach, supported by well-developed research, analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues and trends and use insights to improve safety and wellbeing outcomes
- certificate IV in Work Health and Safety and a current C Class driver’s licence
