Public Transport Services is a group that brings together Commercial and Contract Services, Engineering and Asset Management, Strategy and Network Services and Transport Operations. Together, these branches help keep our city moving. Whether by bus, CityCat or ferry, e-bike or e-scooter, and Metro, our group manages bus contracts with Translink, ferry, e-mobility scheme and personalised public transport operators, that enable us to support the transport choices of Brisbane residents and visitors.

Our Branch

The Engineering and Asset Management Branch is responsible for bus maintenance (both first-line at depots and second-line at Toowong Workshops), establishing and managing fleet maintenance policies, procuring fleet assets, maintaining electrical charging infrastructure, investigating incidents, managing non-bus assets and facilities, overseeing major projects, and coordinating IT requirements for the division.

The Role

The RCM Mechanical Engineer provides production engineering support across a large and technically diverse fleet of more than 1,200 buses and 350 trades staff. This role develops fleet reliability strategies, conducts in-depth asset performance analysis, and prepares detailed engineering scopes, specifications and technical recommendations.

You will interpret complex mechanical issues, debate and collaborate with Design Engineering, and validate technical logic behind recommended engineering actions. The role requires strong capability in SAP, data analytics, modelling, condition assessment, and translating technical findings into clear, actionable engineering documentation.

To be successful you will have:

  • ability to analyse technical data, forecast emerging reliability risks and shape engineering recommendations that improve fleet performance
  • confidence working with trade staff, engineers, data specialists and senior leaders, adapting communication styles to suit each audience
  • experience developing detailed technical scopes, specifications and task instructions to support maintenance and reliability programs
  • proven ability to collaborate with design engineering to validate mechanical solutions, resolve technical issues and support innovation
  • sound judgement, negotiation and stakeholder skills to balance engineering, operational and customer needs.
