Salary Range: Band 6 - $116,089.00 - $128,453.00 per annum, 36.25 hr week plus 17.5% leave loading, plus 14% superannuation and access to flexible working arrangements (Remuneration stated is for full-time positions)

Work Type: Permanent Full-time x 3 roles

Locations: Carina, Garden City and Willawong bus garages

This recruitment process will potentially seek an Order of Merit to create future placements at other bus garages across Brisbane.

Our Business

Public Transport Services help keep Brisbane residents and visitors moving across our city. Our group operates and maintains one of the largest public transport fleets in Australia. Council’s 8 bus depots, spread across the city, ensure efficient operation of Council’s fleet. The bus garages provide onsite dedicated maintenance, cleaning and refuelling and employee amenities.   

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Maintenance Implementation Officers to serve as the second-in-command (2IC) to the Garage Manager at our 22–24-hour heavy vehicle bus garages in Garden City, Carina and Willawong.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, proven leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage HR responsibilities. This role is crucial for supporting the Garage Manager and technical trade staff, ensuring their success while fostering a positive, productive, and Zero Harm work environment.

This is a technical leadership role with minimal "hands-on tools" tasks, where you will lead and manage a team of mechanics, apprentices, coach builders, and auto electricians.

As part of this role you will: 

  • lead a diverse team, in line with capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint
  • oversee compliance with maintenance standards, procedures, systems, process and work instructions
  • manage operational responsibilities including recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations and professional development of staff
  • provide technical guidance and support to team members, encouraging innovation and best practices
  • contribute to the development and implementation of technical solutions, ensuring alignment with company objectives
  • apply technical knowledge to manage the repair and maintenance of a heavy vehicle fleet
  • deliver training to team members on Yard Clearance (Assessment Module – Driving Skills), Lockout Tagout (LOTO), and Take5
  • possess a “C” class driver’s license and trade qualification in a relevant field such as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Auto Electrician and/or Coach Builder or similar.
