Compliance and Regulatory Services (CARS) supplies services which help make Brisbane a fairer and safer place 24/7. Our focus is our Community Value, and we engage with people across the City in a consistent, responsive way, making strong decisions to resolve problems and deliver solutions.
CARS is divided into four dynamic work areas, all working together to deliver compliance and provide the highest level of community value to Brisbane residents.
The Role
The Senior Policy and Legislation Officer contributes to addressing complex requests for advice and emerging issues related to Brisbane’s Natural Environment with a focus on Ecology, supporting the development and implementation of frameworks, standards of practice and policies for CARS branch. You will be responsible to research, gather, analyse and interpret data at a high level such including relevant legislation, policies, performance standards and other data. The Senior Policy and Legislation Officer will prepare reports, submissions and other documentation on a wide range of complex ecological issues.
This role navigates between researching and interpreting legislation and incorporating advice and recommendations within the CARS corporate guidelines and strategy. You will be expected to travel around Brisbane to visit sites, carry out assessments and meet with various stakeholders to discuss natural environment matters and potential actions.
To be successful you will have:
- extensive knowledge of ecological processes and demonstrated experience in identifying existing and emerging threats and developing and applying initiatives relating to the protection of the natural environment
- demonstrated ability to manage projects and consistently plan, schedule, coordinate and prioritise workload and projects to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills including the demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence and liaise with internal and external individuals and organisations and work in multi-disciplinary teams
- strong demonstrated written communication skills and experience with a demonstrated ability to prepare complex submissions, recommendations, reports and presentations
- highly developed research, analytical and complex problem-solving skills to drive business and process improvements, including extensive experience and knowledge in the development, interpretation and application of relevant legislation, local laws, policies and guidelines as they relate to Compliance and Regulatory Services functions.
