Duration: Contract – 4 years
Lead Brisbane’s construction operations with a focus on safety and service excellence. As General Manager, Construction and Maintenance, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for one of Council’s largest delivery arms, overseeing a $146M operating budget and a $157M capital program. You will lead a workforce of 680 to deliver minor civil works and maintenance programs that keep Brisbane safe, connected, and resilient.
The Infrastructure Services Group (ISG) delivers Council’s asset management, planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance, and transport operations. Within ISG, the Construction Branch delivers high-quality, cost-effective infrastructure and specialist services including stormwater drainage, bridges, transport network technologies, trades, and land remediation, providing long-term solutions for Brisbane’s residents and ratepayers. With more than 500 employees, the branch manages civil construction projects and minor works across roads, footpaths, bikeways, waterways, drainage, bridges, traffic infrastructure, and buildings.
This role demands a leader who can champion workplace health and safety across all operations, drive innovation and continuous improvement, and foster a high-performing, values-led culture. You will build strong partnerships across government, industry, and community while ensuring governance, compliance, and risk management underpin every decision.
Step into this key leadership role with Brisbane City Council and make a lasting impact. To succeed, you will bring proven executive leadership in large-scale civil construction, maintenance, and service operations, with a strong track record in process improvement, driving efficiencies, and leading transformative business change. You will have experience in program planning, progress monitoring, and corrective action, as well as expertise in governance, risk management, quality assurance, and cost control. Your ability to promote Zero Harm and ensure safety and environmental compliance will be critical, alongside experience developing business plans and overseeing projects to meet budget, timeline, and quality standards. Proven leadership in building high-performance teams and managing workforce planning is essential, and tertiary qualifications in engineering or postgraduate studies in business and/or project management (or equivalent) are highly desirable.
If you’re ready to shape Brisbane’s future by ensuring safe, reliable infrastructure and delivering public value, this is your opportunity to lead with purpose.
Due to the requirements of this role a criminal history and business checks will be undertaken on preferred applicants. A criminal history does not necessarily preclude an applicant from appointment.
