Our Business

Brisbane City Council is one of the largest local governments in the Asia-Pacific region and one of the biggest employers in Queensland. There are 26 Wards across Brisbane with a Councillor representing each Ward and their constituents. The Governance Council and Committee Services branch is responsible for providing administrative and policy support to the Ward Offices to help achieve the best outcomes for the community. 

Our Ward Offices are Brisbane resident’s physical connection to Brisbane City Council and everything the Council offers. The Role

Pullenvale is proud to be Brisbane City Council’s largest ward which includes the areas of Anstead, Bellbowrie, Brookfield, Karana Downs, Kenmore, Kenmore Hills, Kholo, Lake Manchester, Moggill, Mt Crosby, Pinjarra Hills, Pullenvale, Upper Brookfield and parts of Chuwar and Chapel Hill. The Pullenvale Ward Office is committed to creating incredible outcomes for all the residents that call Pullenvale home including schools, sports clubs and community groups (and more!). The role of Senior Ward Officer has a strong role to play in assisting to create opportunities and solve challenges that the Ward Office can assist the community with. 

As part of a small team your role as Senior Ward Officer will be to lead the Ward Officer in the delivery of highly effective administration and customer service, managing the Ward Office workload and and achieving Key Performance Markers as set by the Councillor. As a key member of the Ward Office you will have the opportunity to represent Brisbane City Council and the Pullenvale Ward Office at local events when needed and connect with residents who come into the Ward Office.

Your professional attitude and leadership experience will enable you to succeed in a busy office environment with complex customer queries, competing demands and the need to re-prioritise when the unexpected arises. You will have experience and success in providing a diverse range of high-quality administrative and customer service tasks, strong computer skills within a fast-paced setting and hands on experience with content writing for digital channels.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • demonstrated customer service experience with a strong focus on resolving complex customer queries including ongoing correspondence where necessary, ensuring honesty, fairness, sensitivity and dignity in all interactions
  • demonstrated experience in leading an office-based operation providing high quality administrative and secretarial support including overall management of in-progress requests in the Customer Database system.
  • demonstrated experience in researching and interpreting legislation, policy and guidelines to support the councillor in resolving community queries
  • demonstrated organization skills including diary management, organising documents and preparing resources for meetings
  • demonstrated experience in writing reports, correspondence and information decks whilst handling sensitive information in line with Council policy.
  • well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with a wide range of customers and Council officers through a variety of channels
  • ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment to an agreed performance standard and contribute to a culture of excellence.
