Brisbane City Council’s Strategic Planning section is delivering suburban precincts and citywide amendments to support housing, employment and communities across the city. To further this work, we have an exciting opportunities for GIS Data Analyst to undertake research, spatial manipulation and work on the urban growth modelling for Brisbane city

City Planning and Design develops strategic planning policy, quality urban design creative outcomes and key legislation including the Brisbane City Plan 2014. Monitoring Brisbane’s growth under the Brisbane City Plan 2014 and South East Queensland Regional Plan is critical for making the future of the city happen, aligned to the themes of Brisbane Vision 2031.

Key Responsibilities
You will undertake research, manipulate spatial data and work on the urban modelling for the city. This will be primarily focused on data foundations for planning projects in strategic planning, infrastructure coordination, precinct and urban renewal precincts. These contribute to the development of the research program and strategic land use models and information systems to support the Strategic Planning Section.
- excellent communication skills with ability to work autonomously in a team environment
- understanding of urban planning principles, and relationships between land use and development activities.
- ability to use tools such as GIS software, FME, SQL for data management and delivery, as well as the ability to learn urban growth models
- ability to comprehend and analyse demographic and urban infrastructure issues
- highly developed cartographic skills that pertain to map production, data analysis and manipulation using Geographical Information Systems.
- process, research, model and analyse land use and development activity to support strategic planning and economic development functions
- process, test and model land use and development inputs to monitor and interpret city evolution and growth projections
- undertake and manage processes for reporting and monitoring internal and external information requests
- advance data management, GIS mapping and growth modelling methodologies and processes that facilitate evidence-based planning, policy development and investment strategies.
