Salary Range: AUD $82,995 – $89,095 per annum (Remuneration stated is for full-time positions

Hourly Rate: $44.02 per hour plus 23% casual loading

Our Branch 

Community Facilities branch delivers experiences that matter to ​our Brisbane communities. We aim to ensure that every one of our customers has the best possible experience at our events and venues which include the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium at Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens.  

The Planetarium is a popular destination to all members of the public interested in exploring the science of the stars. The Planetarium welcomes 180 thousand visitors through the doors each year and delivers a range of programs including Skydome performances and Observatory sessions.   

The team consists of dedicated astronomers and support staff who are passionate about the development and delivery of our scientific programs and ensuring that all visitors to the Planetarium have an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.   

The Role 

As a casual Planetarium Program Officer, you are invited to be part of the team on an ongoing casually rostered basis, to assist in the development and delivery of astronomy programs, pre-recorded shows, visual presentations and hands-on demonstrations to the visiting public and school groups. For this you will need to demonstrate;  

  • well-developed research and presentation skills both written and verbal 
  • confidence in public speaking to a broad audience with an ability to communicate sometimes complex (scientific) information in simple yet engaging ways  
  • excellent customer service skills that can be easily adapted to a wide range of customers. 

If you genuinely enjoy interacting with people in a customer facing role, being a helpful point of call to customers and addressing their queries, then this role is for you.   

Desirable attributes  

Work experience in the education sector and/or skills in graphic design, digital content creation and visual arts.  

Note: this role requires a Criminal History Check and valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card) for preferred candidates.
