Salary Range: AUD $161,698.78 - $174,981.80 per annum (Total package inclusive of Base + 14% superannuation + 17.5% leave loading).

Our Branch

City Legal is a specialist provider of legal services to Brisbane City Council. We provide a comprehensive range of cost-effective legal services, adding value to Council's core business and major projects. This role is part of the Corporate Governance and Commercial team in City Legal and reports directly to the Senior Legal Counsel.

The Role

Brisbane City Council is transforming our city into a modern vibrant utopia by building and investing in multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects including:

  • Brisbane Metro transport network
  • Victoria Park
  • Queens Wharf
  • Indooroopilly Roundabout upgrade
  • Green Bridges.

The Corporate Governance and Commercial team is responsible for drafting contracts and providing commercial advice to Council on its day-to-day operations and largest construction & infrastructure projects.

As the Senior Solicitor in the Commercial Team, you will provide specialist legal advice, negotiate with external stakeholders, formulate strategy, advise on procurement and manage risk on commercial projects including large infrastructure projects, construction and other core projects. Your work will span projects which support Council’s day-to-day operations (transport services, construction and waste services etc.) along with the transformative infrastructure projects that will lead to Brisbane 2032.

This role will allow you to harness your knowledge and experience and partner with a variety of branches across Brisbane City Council. The successful candidate will be able to manage competing long-term and short-term priorities, re-prioritise workload to accommodate urgent requests & shifting deadlines. Part of this role will involve mentorship and guidance of junior staff members in the Corporate Governance and Commercial team.

To be successful you will have:

  • demonstrated experience working on major projects (including large scale construction and infrastructure projects) as a Senior Lawyer providing clear and concise advice on major projects
  • demonstrated knowledge and experience in negotiation, strategy, risk management in a range of commercial projects including infrastructure projects, construction projects or other core services projects
  • demonstrated ability to draft complex contracts and transactional documents in respect of multi-disciplinary projects and commercial matters
  • expert negotiation and liaison skills
  • comprehensive knowledge of contemporary professional literature and case law

The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in Law, be admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and hold a current Practising Certificate from the Queensland Law Society.
