Our Branch - Development Services

We play a key role to facilitate Brisbane’s growth so our unique, subtropical capital continues to offer quality of life for visitors and residents.

Our branch is the destination for applications relating to development, including engineering and plumbing. We have an amazing team of dedicated, passionate and service focused professional people who have our residents, building construction industry and communities at the heart of what they do.

The Role

The Senior Urban Planner provides leadership and supervision to staff facilitating sustainable planning and development outcomes to ensure development applications and other decisions comply with relevant legislation and Council policy.

You will also manage a range of medium and high risk development applications providing professional advice, high quality development outcomes, and exceptional customer service.

You will work closely with various Development Services teams to provide input on a diverse range of service delivery functions including assessment, prelodgement services, planning information and advice, planning application reviews, infrastructure charges calculations, and governance and appeals.

We are looking for a highly experienced urban planner with superior knowledge in planning development who can engage and work collaboratively with the administration, management, and provide leadership in development outcomes. In this role you will:

  • manage medium-high risk development applications
  • exercise delegated authority for development applications
  • interpret, apply and advise on relevant legislation and Council policies and procedures
  • prepare correspondence, instructions, submissions to Council delegates, committees or expert witnesses
  • represent Council on Planning and Environment and Building Tribunal matters
  • contribute to the development and implementation of the planning scheme and participate in community consultation.

To be successful you will have:

  • demonstrated evidence of capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint
  • broad experience in applying best practice in planning, built environment, infrastructure and/or environment disciplines
  • broad experience in managing the assessment of development applications and associated requests
  • demonstrated high level application of planning schemes and Infrastructure Charges Resolutions
  • demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with broad experience in negotiation
  • broad experience in developing and maintaining relationships, supervising, consultation, and influencing.
