Council plays a critical role in ensuring public land is maintained safely, sustainably and efficiently, requiring strong leadership, a commitment to Zero Harm, and the ability to adapt how we work as community expectations and environmental challenges continue to evolve.
Our Branch
Public Space Operations is responsible for maintaining and enhancing Brisbane’s natural environment assets to ensure they are safe, sustainable and valued by the community. Our work directly contributes to protecting biodiversity, improving ecological outcomes and ensuring public land is managed responsibly for current and future generations
The Role
As a Team Leader Natural Environment, you will coordinate and undertake natural area maintenance, minor development projects and rehabilitation works within an assigned region, while providing leadership and mentoring to a small field-based team.

You will be expected to plan and deliver work programs, actively monitor performance, and identify opportunities to improve productivity, work practices and safety outcomes. The role requires confidence to address unsafe or unproductive behaviours, issue clear instructions, and have difficult conversations when required to maintain safety and performance standards.
A key part of this role is contributing to the long‑term management and condition of natural environment sites, applying sound land management and conservation principles, ecosystem knowledge and forward planning to ensure works undertaken today support sustainable outcomes into the future.
To Be Successful You Will Have
- demonstrated experience leading field-based teams in a natural environment or land management context
- strong knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and the ability to apply them in day‑to‑day operations
- the ability to issue clear instructions, manage performance and address unsafe or ineffective behaviours
- well‑developed verbal and written communication skills for operational reporting and team direction
- sound knowledge of natural environment maintenance, rehabilitation and ecosystem management principles
- the ability to keep up to date with new technologies, techniques and industry developments
- confidence to challenge existing practices and improve how work is delivered
- a practical, solutions‑focused approach to planning and supervising field operations
