Strategic Procurement sources and manages Council's procurement of goods, services and works in a way that delivers the best outcomes for Brisbane.

The Role

As a Category Officer, you will play a key role in delivering strategic procurement outcomes across a diverse portfolio of contracts and suppliers. Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will develop and implement category strategies, lead sourcing activities, undertake commercial analysis, and manage supplier relationships to deliver value for money, innovation and improved customer outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to influence procurement decisions across the organisation through data-driven insights, strategic thinking and effective stakeholder engagement.

You will contribute to procurement planning, supplier performance management, contract administration and risk management, while identifying opportunities to improve processes, optimise value chains and support continuous improvement.

Working within a collaborative team environment, you will help deliver sustainable and commercially sound outcomes that align with Council's objectives

To be successful you will have:

  • ability to work well in a team, share feedback and contribute to achieving team goals
  • experience in category management, strategic sourcing and contract management
  • strong analytical skills, including the ability to use spreadsheets and data to support business decisions
  • understanding of procurement and supplier management, with the ability to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement
  • strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders
  • experience negotiating, managing and monitoring contracts and supplier agreements
  • qualifications in Procurement, Commerce, Business, Logistics or a related field, and/or MCIPS accreditation, will be highly regarded but are not essential
  • an understanding of contract law and procurement principles will be viewed favourably
  • knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and governance requirements, or the ability to quickly learn and apply them, will be advantageous
  • experience or knowledge in the relevant category area will be highly regarded.
