Our Branch
Support Services provides Council's key support services under a centralised model. The efficient back-of-house support ensures more resources can be focused on Council’s front-line service delivery.
Employee Services is part of Support Services and is made up of two core functions – Recruitment and Payroll. We work together to ensure accurate, timely pay and employee lifecycle support across Council.
The Role
The Payroll Consultant at Brisbane City Council plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services to all employees. With a focus on quality and efficiency, the consultant utilises their technical expertise to carry out complex tasks within the payroll process. Working closely with the Payroll Team Leader, the consultant is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders. From handling off-cycle pay runs to conducting quality assurance reviews, the consultant prioritises tasks effectively to resolve any issues promptly and maintain compliance with legislative requirements.
Moreover, the Payroll Consultant is actively involved in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in payroll services and other related human resource functions. This role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills to negotiate, provide advice, and document payroll processes accurately. By proactively contributing to team direction, giving and receiving feedback, and achieving agreed performance standards, the Payroll Consultant fosters a culture of performance excellence within the Council's payroll operations.
To be successful you will have:
- strong experience in conducting payroll activities within a large and complex organisation
- knowledge of human resource management systems, particularly in relation to payroll functions
- demonstrated ability to handle high-volume transactions accurately in a demanding customer service environment
- excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective negotiation and problem-solving
- proven organisational skills to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality work output.
