Are you seeking an exciting and challenging role leading cemetery and crematorium operations across Brisbane to deliver exceptional services for our customers?

Brisbane City Council is seeking a highly experienced Cemeteries Operations Manager to lead the delivery of burial and cremation services across Council’s cemeteries and crematoria. This pivotal leadership role oversees multiple teams responsible for operations, fleet management, project delivery, and budget development, ensuring exceptional customer service and operational excellence.

Our Branch

Cemeteries, within the Customer Services Group, manages cemetery and crematorium operations across Brisbane, delivering respectful, safe, and customer-focused services. We are committed to delivering respectful, customer-focused services and preserving Brisbane’s historic cemeteries for future generations.

The Role

As Cemeteries Operations Manager, you will:

  • Lead and inspire a team of up to 50 staff, fostering a values-based culture and performance excellence.
  • Oversee the operational delivery of burial and cremation services across multiple sites.
  • Manage budgets, projects, and resources to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement strategies for maintenance, service improvement, and risk management.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including elected representatives and community groups.
  • Provide expert advice to senior leadership on operational issues, projects, and cost-saving opportunities.

This position requires flexibility and leads a team who whose rosters span over 7-days and may be required to be available.

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing large, diverse teams in a complex operational environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver customer-focused services and drive cultural and operational excellence.
  • Relevant experience in achieving outcomes in the management, operation and maintenance of cemeteries and crematoria or similar industry.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving capability to address complex operational challenges.
  • Experience in project delivery, and strategic planning.
  • A current C Class driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
