Development Services facilitates high-quality, sustainable development outcomes for Brisbane, through efficient and professional development assessment and management processes, systems and practices.
City Planning and Economic Development Services develops strategic planning policy, economic strategies, quality urban design creative outcomes and key legislation including the Brisbane City Plan 2014. Monitoring Brisbane’s growth under the Brisbane City Plan 2014 and South East Queensland Regional Plan is critical for making the future of the city happen, aligned to the themes of Brisbane Vision 2031.

The Role
As a Senior Urban Planner, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality development outcomes for one of Australia’s fastest‑growing capital cities. Working across planning services and development assessment, you’ll manage complex and high‑impact applications, provide expert planning advice, and apply sound professional judgement to shape Brisbane’s built environment. This role offers real influence - supporting city‑shaping decisions through assessment, negotiation, infrastructure charging, governance and appeal processes.

To be successful you will have:
- strong experience assessing complex development applications, applying planning schemes, infrastructure charges and sound professional judgement
- well‑developed negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders
- a solid understanding of planning legislation, policy and governance, with the confidence to provide clear, defensible advice and recommendations
- proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced, high‑accountability environment
- a collaborative, values‑driven approach, with the capability to mentor others and contribute to a high‑performing team.
