Our Business
Brisbane City Council operates one of the largest bus fleets in Australia and offers a variety of services to the public. We provide time-tabled bus services, tourist, school, special events and charter runs as well as other services as required across Brisbane City.
Transport Operations is responsible for delivering bus network services from seven depots, network coordination and maintenance work on our bus fleet.
Our Bus Operators/Drivers demonstrate outstanding customer service, prioritise zero harm and workplace health and safety for themselves, passengers, and the public alike.
The Role
We are currently seeking Bus Operator/Drivers for our Toowong, Sherwood and Willawong depots.
As a Bus Operator/Driver, you will play an instrumental part in moving the people of Brisbane safely to their destination whilst providing exceptional customer service to your passengers.
Once out on the road, this role is largely autonomous, providing smooth journeys and friendly service to our customers, residents and visitors. You’ll have support from the Network Coordination Centre and your home-depot, where you’ll be among like-minded Public Transport Services staff.
Eligibility requirements:
- have work rights status in Australia
- have held an Australian 'C' class car licence for at least three years
- be able to obtain a current driver authorisation ('G' class) from Queensland Government
- be able to obtain a HR licence from the Queensland Department of Transport
- have a clean driving history (i.e. not lost more than six demerit points in the past three years, or had a suspended license or good behaviour period in the last four years, excluding SPER)
- be available full-time Monday to Friday whilst completing the Bus Operator/Driver induction program.
Here’s what our operators have to say
“I like that my office view changes every day and I am constantly learning new skills on how to manoeuvre these long heavy vehicles. I enjoy and appreciate the supportive work environment and helpful work colleagues” – Pauline, Carina Depot
“When I started training, I was amazed and terrified at the sheer size of the busses I was learning to drive. After my initial training, I have grown quite comfortable driving the bus and now after more time in the role, I actually miss driving when I am not at work” - Mandy, Sherwood Depot
What's our Expression of Interest process?
At Brisbane City Council, we use an Expression of Interest process to capture future eager drivers details for our regular recruitment intakes.
An Expression of Interest is an application process where our system will ask you to create a profile and an updated resume showcasing information about you and your past job history.
What happens after I submit my Expression of Interest?
You’ll then be added to our Bus Operator candidate pool, where you’ll be considered for Bus Operating opportunities. If you are a suitable match and we’d like to learn more about your motivation, you will be contacted by our team when we are ready to proceed with our next recruitment intake.
We kindly ask that you submit your application to only one advertisement with the depots that are most conveniently located near you.
