Our Branch

The Commercial Services and Business Improvement Branch's purpose is to drive improvement, agility, and resilience, by providing support to City Standards and more broadly across Infrastructure Services, making it easier and safer to deliver outcomes for the community.

The Role

The Workplace Health and Safety Senior Advisor is primarily responsible for providing workplace health and safety advice in the construction unit based on risk management principles, compliance and legislative requirements. This will include developing risk management processes and safety management plans, as well as conducting site inspections, audits, and workplace health and safety investigations. You will also monitor and audit current safety practices and procedures to contribute to ongoing compliance and continuous improvement for Council projects and staff.

Your role will include working with senior management and safety professionals to assess safety systems and provide support and advice where required. You will also design and conduct Workplace Health and Safety training, inductions, hazard awareness and job-specific risk management programs to support the development of the team.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to apply your experience in safety systems and lead discussions and training about safety for construction individuals across Council.

To be successful you will have:

  • knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety legislation, policies and procedures in a field-based operations area
  • demonstrated experience in risk management and safety development in construction or relevant industry
  • ability to coach and mentor to support team development and lead conversations around safety requirements
  • investigation skills in undertaking health and safety audits, investigating injuries, accidents and dangerous events
  • highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • a tertiary qualification in OHS or related field
  • a current “C” Class driver’s licence.
