Our Branch
Strategic Communication and Engagement is made up of hard-working media and communication specialists across brand, internal communication, campaign strategy, digital, media, corporate affairs, social media, sponsorship and community engagement. The team works in close partnership with stakeholders and program areas to provide strategic communication advice and coordinate the development, implementation, promotion and evaluation of Council campaigns and initiatives.
The Roles
We are recruiting for two temporary Strategic Advisor roles, one in Corporate Affairs (looking for strong communication and storytelling) until September 2026 and one in Marketing, Brand and Creative (the successful candidate will have strong marketing skills) until April 2027.
In both roles we are looking for a seasoned professional to provide trusted, senior‑level strategic communication advice across a wide range of complex, sensitive and high‑profile matters. Working closely with the Branch Management Team, executives and stakeholders across Council, you will help shape how Council engages with residents, customers and partners.
You will lead and support external communication disciplines including marketing, brand, creative, media, public affairs, , issues and crisis communication, t. The role plays a key part in setting strategic direction, identifying insights, managing risk and ensuring communication activity delivers value, alignment and impact.
To be successful you will have:
- strong senior‑level experience in strategic communication, marketing, brand, creative and public affairs and media in a large, complex organisation
- confidence influencing and providing advice to executives, elected representatives and senior stakeholders on sensitive and high‑profile issues
- excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to shape clear messaging for diverse audiences
- proven leadership capability, including guiding teams, setting direction and fostering a collaborative culture
- sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards and governance.
