People and Culture covers all matters relating to the employment, retention and development of our people. People and Culture partners with Support Services, and colleagues across the organisation to achieve outcomes. These include maintaining and improving the capabilities of Council's people to build a highly capable, effective and engaged workforce, and supporting Council's processes, systems and communication.
The Role
The Workplace Health and Safety Internal Auditor and Management Review Lead, sits within the Employee Wellbeing team and plays an essential role in the evaluation of Council’s work health and safety management systems and compliance requirements. The role involves:
- auditing and reporting on existing safety systems and processes across the organisation’s branches and groups
- building and developing action plans with work areas that educate, promote and keep employees safe by creating robust practices and establishing a culture of safety awareness
- leading internal stakeholders on the path to implement better safety processes and practices with long term quality assurance and follow-up
- delivery of updates, report and presentations to senior stakeholders, including the Executive Management Team and guidance through our strategy of achieving a Zero Harm environment
- leading Council’s WHS Management Review process, including relevant reporting to senior management
- creating strong relationships through highly developed interpersonal skills with stakeholders, as a subject matter expert on WHS delivery

To be successful you will have:
- extensive experience providing authoritative, professional, and strategic WHS advice to senior and line management and other key stakeholders, ensuring a strong client outcome focus.
- demonstrated experience delivering WHS audit outcomes and performance reporting across a range of work disciplines using strong research and problem-solving skills, identifying trends and improvement opportunities.
- well-developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to develop and manage risk-based audit programs and schedules to cover the risk and compliance requirements of the Zero Harm Management system
- demonstrated skills contributing to the success of a team, conflict resolution skills, the ability to build stakeholder relationships and achieve agreed performance standards
Desirable
- Tertiary qualification, (undergraduate or postgraduate) in safety, risk management or related discipline
- Professional certification or ability to gain a professional certification (e.g. Australian Institute of Health & Safety (AIHS) or equivalent).
- Certified Lead Auditor Training ISO45001 or equivalent
