Our Team
Council’s Cemeteries and Crematoria team provides burial and cremation services to the community and is responsible for the maintenance of 12 cemeteries across Brisbane. Our dedicated team of professional and operational staff maintain cemetery grounds, graves and memorials across our cemeteries and provide vital funerary services at each of the sites. We have cemeteries at Hemmant, Toowong, Mt Gravatt and Pinnaroo (Bridgeman Downs).
The Role
As a Burial Operations Officer, you will be undertaking a manual labour role, including excavating burial sites with machinery, setting-up and consolidate burials and memorialisation of ashes, undertake grounds maintenance and landscaping projects. Working amongst a highly motivated team, your strong work ethic, collaborative attitude and personal initiative will be a great asset to fulfil daily operations.
This role operates outdoors and encounters cemetery visitors. It is important that you can interact sensitively and respectfully with the public and maintain a customer focus during any interactions with visitors to the cemetery.
We have positions available at Mt Gravatt Cemetery; however, we do require operators to be flexible in working from any one of our Council cemeteries on a business needs basis. This role is also rostered between 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday and works a 9-day fortnight.
To be successful for this role you will have:
- relevant experience in the conduct and coordination of burial activities, assisting in other operational activities including exhumations, garden and grounds care, maintenance, and other activities
- experience in operating minor and major plant and small hand tools, such as backhoes, mini excavators, buggies, kanga diggers, ride-on mowers, and whipper snippers in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions
- demonstrated verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to complete customer service activities associated with cemetery field work
- knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety Management Systems and experience in applying Workplace Health & Safety procedures.
Mandatory qualifications
- criminal History Check
- ‘C’ class drivers’ licence
- possession or ability to obtain a current ‘MR’ Class Driver Licence.
