Salary Range: Grade 9 $1,574.40 per week + Superannuation (Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions) 

Work type: Temporary Full-time 

Duration: Up to 30th June 2027 (Extension/s thereafter but not guaranteed)

The Role  

As an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, you will work closely with the Superintendent to support the maintenance, presentation and daily operation of one of Council’s public golf courses. This is a hands‑on role that balances practical greenkeeping with coordination and supervision of staff activities. 

You will assist in maintaining course surfaces, surrounds and landscaped areas to a high standard, including greens, tees, fairways, practice areas and clubhouse gardens. Working alongside the Superintendent, you’ll help implement the annual course maintenance plan, coordinate daily work activities, and support the training and development of ground staff and apprentices. 

The role involves assisting with the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, machinery and fleet, coordinating contractors when required, and responding to issues such as vandalism, storm damage or irrigation faults. You’ll also liaise with golfing groups, the pro shop, clubhouse and lessees to ensure customer service expectations are met. 

To be successful you will have: 

  • formal qualifications in Horticulture or Turf Management (Certificate III or higher) 
  • possession of a current C class Drivers Licence 
  • possession of an ACDC Commercial Spray Operators Licence  
  • first Aid Certificate and Construction White Card or the ability to obtain  
  • experience assisting with golf course maintenance activities, including turf care, irrigation and machinery operation 
  • working knowledge of modern computer‑controlled irrigation systems and basic fault identification 
  • experience supervising or guiding staff on daily tasks and contributing to training and performance feedback 
  • good communication and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work cooperatively within a team 
  • a strong commitment to safety, customer service and maintaining high standards in a public environment.
