Our Business

Governance and Legal Services (GLS) plays an important role providing support to Council’s elected representatives, Chief Executive Officer, Group Executive & General Counsel, GLS and General Manager, Governance, Council and Committee Services (GCCS) and all council programs. GLS provides trusted advice to ensure Council’s business is delivered through the provision of effective governance.

GCCS includes the following key areas: General Manager’s Office, Policy and Compliance, Council and Committee Liaison Office, Office of the Disputes Commissioner and Councillor Support.

The role:

The Principal Strategy and Business Services Officer is responsible for providing high level professional, strategic and policy advice to the General Manager, Governance, Council and Committee Services (GMGCCS) including the delivery of the strategic projects and business improvement. The successful applicant will provide critical support through governance activities and risk management assessment, key report and communication preparation and writing, reviewing and preparing policy that the GCCS branch is responsible for. 

You will work closely with the General Manager to proactively support the critical outcomes and reporting deadlines for the branch through strategic planning, trend and data analysis and collaborating with branch leadership.

To be successful you will have:

  • demonstrated evidence of capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint
  • demonstrated experience in providing high quality professional advice, research and information on a range of topics including corporate strategy, planning, policy, business and operation activities
  • demonstrated experience in conducting analytical, research , risk management and problem-solving skills to synthesise, summarise and resolve complex issues and emergent issues
  • demonstrated experience in the management of an ongoing portfolio of work including proven ability to proactively manage competing priorities and achieving efficiencies with continuous improvement processes
  • demonstrated experience in preparing written communication including the ability to produce reports, correspondence, memoranda and submissions of a high standard.
