Salary Range: AUD $85,678.83 - $94,825.00 per annum plus Superannuation

(Remuneration is based on full-time positions)

Work Type: Temporary Part Time

Duration: Fixed term contract up until the next quadrennial election in early 2028 with the possibility of extension

Ward Officer

A unique opportunity exists for a motivated, customer-focused person to join the Moorooka Ward Office as a Ward Officer.

Working within a small team, your role will be to ensure the effective administrative operation of the Councillor’s Ward Office as well as liaising effectively with residents, community groups, businesses, and other stakeholders in their interactions with Brisbane City Council.

Knowledge (or the ability to obtain) of the local landmarks, streets and community groups is desirable but not essential.

This will be a contracted position for up to 3 days per week, with opportunities for additional casual hours to provide relief coverage during annual leave, long service leave and other staff absences. By agreement, after hours or weekend work may be required to support community events and engagement activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing high level administrative support including a high standard of customer service in all interactions.
  • Managing a high-volume shared email inbox and welcoming residents to the ward office.
  • Resolving a variety of resident enquiries and complex customer requests, with the ability to take detailed information, submit requests and communicate updates and outcomes.
  • Apply strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess issues, identify priorities and appropriately escalate matters when required.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop engaging communications including social media content, community event promotion, newsletters and local print publications.
  • Assist with planning, coordination and delivery of local community events.

Key attributes

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a member of a small high-performing team.
  • Strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Experience dealing with sensitive information in a confidential and appropriate manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and experience in database usage.
  • The ability to prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence (emails and letters including unaddressed and direct mail)
  • A positive attitude, adaptability and a genuine willingness to learn and contribute to team success.

Desired:

  • The following skills will be highly regarded:
  • Photography, video editing skills.
  • Video editing experience using Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut or similar software.
  • Experience with e-newsletter platforms and digital communication tools.
  • Current studies or qualifications in Media, Communications, Journalism, English or a related field.

This role will include after hours or weekend work by agreement.
