Personnel Area: City Administration and Governance 

Branch: Governance Council and Committee Services

Salary Range: AUD: $82,582.00 to $91,307.58 per annum plus superannuation 

(Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions)

Work type: Temporary part-time (3 days per week)

Duration: Fixed term contract until the next quadrennial election of March 2028 with the possibility of an extension.

Number of roles: 2 roles available

Location: Paddington Ward Office (44 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064)

Our Business 

Brisbane City Council is one of the largest local governments in the Asia-Pacific region and one of the biggest employers in Queensland. There are 26 Wards across Brisbane with a Councillor representing each Ward and their constituents. The Governance Council and Committee Services branch is responsible for providing administrative and policy support to the Ward Offices to help achieve the best outcomes for the community.  

Our Ward Offices are Brisbane resident’s physical connection to Brisbane City Council and everything the Council offers. At its heart, our Ward Offices are strongly focused on connecting communities, promoting everything Brisbane has to offer and delivering exceptional customer services for residents. 

The Role 

The Paddington Ward is a fast-growing area with a strong sense of community which is home to the suburbs of Paddington, Auchenflower, Milton, Kelvin Grove, Red Hill, Petrie Terrace, Bardon, Herston, and parts of Bowen Hills and Toowong. Our goal is to bring the community together through our work with local community groups, sports clubs, schools, small businesses and all the residents of Paddington Ward. The Paddington Ward Office is committed to the best outcomes for the community and is seeking to grow our dynamic and strong team. 

Helping to create thriving and connected communities is at the heart of our Ward Office work. As part of a small team, your role will be to ensure high quality customer service interactions with residents utilising your strong innovative problem-solving skills while always maintaining an empathetic and compassionate mindset. Your excellent writing skills will help you craft high quality responses to constituents (and other audiences) and create meaningful relationships. You can make this role a success by having a flexible, energetic and agile attitude while demonstrating initiative to keep matters organised. Your professional attitude will enable you to succeed in a busy office environment with competing demands and priorities. 

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • demonstrated customer service experience with a strong focus on outcomes and resolving diverse customer requests ensuring honesty, fairness, sensitivity and dignity in all interactions.
  • demonstrated experience in providing quality administrative support to an office-based operation including entering and tracking customer requests in a Customer Database system and managing timelines on customer requests
  • demonstrated organisation skills including diary management, organising documents and preparing for meetings
  • demonstrated strong ability to triage, prioritise daily tasks in a high-pressure environment. 
  • well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with a wide range of customers and Council officers through a variety of channels
  • demonstrated experience in research, writing reports and handling sensitive information in line with Council policy
  • experience or knowledge across social media channels and confidence to use simple design tools like Canva
  • ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment to an agreed performance standard and contribute to a culture of excellence
  • experience working or volunteering for community organisations

A C-Class Drivers License is desirable
