Number of roles: 2 (1x role 3 days per week and 1x role 2 days per week)

Commencement: January 2026

About Walter Taylor Ward:

Walter Taylor Ward lies on the northern side of the Brisbane River in the city's western suburbs, comprised of Indooroopilly, St Lucia, Fig Tree Pocket, Taringa, and parts of Toowong and Chapel Hill. Named after the historic Walter Taylor Bridge, the ward blends leafy residential streets with vibrant student life thanks to the University of Queensland. The area is known for its high educational attainment, strong community engagement, environmental services and initiatives, and mix of heritage homes and modern development.

Ward Officer

A unique opportunity exists for a highly motivated, customer focused person to join the Walter Taylor Ward Office as a Ward Officer. As part of a small team, your role will be to ensure the effective administrative operation of the Councillor's Ward Office as well as liaising effectively with the community, residents and other stakeholders in their interactions with Brisbane City Council. Knowledge (or the ability to obtain) of the local landmarks, streets and community groups is desirable but not mandatory.

Key responsibilities:

  • providing high level administrative support including a high standard of customer service in all interactions
  • managing a high-volume shared email inbox and greeting residents as they enter the office
  • resolving a variety of complex customer requests and enquiries, with the ability to take detailed information, submit requests and communicate updates and outcome with residents
  • collaborating with our team to create high quality content including marketing for our many community events, ideas for our social media posts across multiple platforms and drafting content for our local print publications
  • delivering friendly and informed customer service related to local events and community opportunities and challenges.
  • assisting the team with the organisation of local community events (as directed by the Councillor), including booking venues and suppliers, coordinating logistics, and executing advertising and promotional activities. Examples include mobile offices, Movies in the Park, new park celebrations
  • supporting with hands-on tasks such as loading the van, installing signage and banners, and setting up mobile offices or event spaces as required.

Key Attributes:

  • a willingness to learn from our experienced team and adapt to any new opportunities and challenges with a positive attitude
  • proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to lean new software as needed
  • knowledge of content creation on key social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and X)
  • well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a small team
  • highly developed time management and prioritisation skills
  • experience dealing with sensitive information in a confidential and appropriate manner
  • strong attention to detail and desirable previous experience in database usage
  • the ability to compile and create business reports, information sheets, presentations and correspondence (emails and letters including unaddressed and direct mail)

This role will include after hours or weekend work by agreement.
