The Role
The Principal Accountant ensures Council’s financial policies, systems, and reporting frameworks are compliant, efficient, and strategically aligned. This role provides expert technical accounting leadership, develops policy, and advises senior leaders to maintain financial integrity. By embedding consistent, high-quality practices across asset management, revenue, and general ledger functions, it strengthens organisational capability and supports strategic direction.
To be successful you will have:
- ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback and achieve greed performance standards in order to contribute to a culture of performance excellence
- relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related discipline
- CPA or CA qualification
- extensive expertise in technical accounting, financial reporting and policy development within a large, complex organisation
- superior knowledge of financial legislation, accounting standards, compliance obligations and audit processes
- proven ability to prepare and review high-quality financial statements and technical accounting papers
- experience leading or mentoring professional accountants to deliver quality outcomes
- high-level communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including providing authoritative advice to executives
- highly developed business and commercial acumen with an excellent ability to achieve effective results in a complex and evolving organisation.
