Salary Range: 2 vacancies: Band 6 AUD $116,089.00 to $128,453.00 per annum plus superannuation (Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions)

Work type: 2 x Full-time, Temporary (1 role for three years, 1 role for up to 11 months)

Our Business City Planning and Design develops strategic planning policy, quality urban design creative outcomes and key legislation including the Brisbane City Plan 2014. Monitoring Brisbane’s growth under the Brisbane City Plan 2014 and South East Queensland Regional Plan is critical for making the future of the city happen, aligned to the themes of Brisbane Vision 2031.

Our Branch As part of City Planning and Design, Design Brisbane is Council’s centre of excellence for design. We lead the city’s design strategy and drive the architecture and urban design agenda. Our work supports planning and policy development for the city centre, neighbourhoods, infrastructure, and public spaces – fostering growth, diversifying the economy, and protecting Brisbane’s enviable lifestyle.

The Opportunities We currently have two Senior Urban Designer vacancies within Design Brisbane. As an urban design specialist, you will champion design excellence across the city through design-led guidance and policy development, strategic design advice and collaborative, design‑focused partnerships.

Design Brisbane brings together diverse expertise across urban design, public art and place, promoting holistic, best‑practice outcomes for Brisbane’s communities. We advocate for the value of great design and lead the creation of places where people and culture thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply design-led strategies, policies and guidance
  • review urban design proposals and contribute expert advice
  • work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project outcomes
  • build relationships with industry and community to promote good design
  • collaborate across Council to share expertise and shape consistent design outcomes
  • provide professional urban design advice to elected representatives, internal teams and external stakeholders.

 To be successful, you will bring:

  • Deep expertise in urban design principles and strong experience applying them to strategies, policies, and built‑form or spatial proposals
  • proven ability to independently plan, manage and deliver complex projects with integrated, high‑quality outcomes
  • highly developed consultation, negotiation, networking and communication skills, with confidence engaging across industry, government and community
  • demonstrated experience applying urban design skills to shape projects and policy, ensuring practical realisation of design-led concepts and objectives.
