The Role

We’re seeking an experienced and people‑focused Arboriculture Operations Team Leader to guide the delivery of high‑quality arboriculture services across the community. In this role, you’ll lead a team of qualified arborists, ensuring all work is completed safely, on time and in line with Council’s standards. You’ll also play an important part in building a strong, values‑driven team culture that supports best‑practice tree care, excellent customer service and sustainable asset management.

Working closely with the Arboriculture Coordinator and Delivery Manager, you’ll provide clear direction, set performance expectations and offer regular feedback to support both team and individual development. You will coordinate planned and reactive work programs, make effective use of staff and equipment, and provide technical expertise across areas such as tree maintenance, inspections, hazard reduction and safe work methods. The role also involves preparing operational reports, correspondence and recommendations.

You will establish strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, customers and suppliers to ensure smooth communication, timely problem‑solving and high levels of service satisfaction. Additionally, you’ll oversee depot records, contribute to budget planning, monitor resource use and stay up to date with new developments and innovations within the arboriculture industry.

To be successful you will have:

  • demonstrated capability aligned with Council’s Leadership Blueprint, supporting performance excellence and a values‑based team culture
  • proven ability to lead and contribute to team direction, exchange feedback and meet agreed performance standards to foster a high‑performance environment
  • extensive experience with arboriculture machinery, tools, plant identification and control techniques, with the ability to guide and support operational staff
  • excellent organisational and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence, work independently, manage competing priorities and respond to urgent customer needs
  • demonstrated financial management skills, including monitoring and managing planned and reactive arboriculture activities within approved budgets
  • ability to apply arboricultural knowledge and skills to deliver successful project outcomes aligned with Council and industry best practice
  • Certificate III in Arboriculture
  • knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of, Council corporate systems such as SAP.
  • possession of a MR Class driver’s licence
  • possession of a White Card
  • ability to support and coordinate staff involved in after‑hours call‑outs and disaster recovery operations.
