Our Business
Governance and Legal Services (GLS) plays an important role providing support to Council’s elected representatives, Chief Executive Officer, Group Executive & General Counsel, GLS and General Manager, Governance, Council and Committee Services (GCCS) and all Council programs. GLS provides trusted advice to ensure Council’s business is delivered through the provision of effective governance.
GCCS includes the following key areas: General Manager’s Office, Policy and Compliance, Council and Committee Liaison Office, Office of the Disputes Commissioner and Councillor Support. The Governance Council and Committee Services branch provides excellence in administrative and strategic governance services to Council and external customers in an evolving environment.
The Role
The Senior Information Officer is responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on Council's obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld). This role supports legislative compliance through the management of information access stakeholder engagement, training delivery, and the resolution of complex and sensitive information governance issues.
Some of your day-to-day responsibilities:
- provide specialist advice on information access
- manage applications, enquiries and review matters relating to the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld)
- coordinate administrative and delegated decision-making processes under relevant legislation
- deliver training and information sessions on information access, privacy requirements and administrative access processes
- research and analyse complex and sensitive matters to support sound decision-making and compliance outcomes
- build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and legislative compliance
- maintain accurate records, databases and reporting systems.
- contribute to a high-performing team environment while effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines.
To be successful you will have:
- demonstrated ability to contribute to a high-performing team culture, provide and receive feedback, and achieve agreed performance outcomes
- strong knowledge of the Right to Information Act 2009, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge, with the ability to interpret legislation and apply sound judgement
- proven initiative, problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement and process enhancement
- strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships and influence outcomes at all levels
- excellent written communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- well-developed research and analytical skills, with the ability to provide clear, accurate and informed advice on complex matters
- strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
